The Highest Building in The World

The Burj Dubai that is currently under construction in Dubai and is already the world’s tallest building (it will eventually stand 818m) has been held up.

Burj Dubai is now taller than Taipei 101 in Taiwan, which at 508 meters has held the tallest-building-in-the-world title since it opened in 2004,” Emaar Properties, which is developing the Dubai tower, said in a statement

In March, Emaar Properties, the manager of the world’s tallest tower block, had announced a four month delay but still said the tower would be completed before the en of 2008. However, they now say that work is behind schedule and will be delayed by another eight to nine months. You can imagine investors are probably not very happy.

Burj Dubai is part of the $20 billion Burj Dubai development (4.1$ billion for the skyscraper), which includes a shopping mall, hotels and residential buildings. The skyscraper’s construcion began in September 2004. The structural engineers in charge of the project are Bill Baker at SOM. For more details, see our previous post.

The real height of the building will not be revealed before the building is completed. This is to keep the intrigue, but also so no other country announces a taller building once they know the height.
